Terra Alta is a tranquil retreat located in Schroon Lake NY at the foothills of the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. It has been an Adirondack Park summer destination since the 1930s and has been owned and operated by three generations of the Starfield Family since the mid-1950s.

The Montgomery Ward kit-home cottages from the 1930s have been well-loved and cared for.  The cottages themselves are charming and rustic.

They are nestled at the north end of the lake on 14 acres of tall pines with 400 feet of shoreline  providing a sense of privacy and creating a peaceful ambiance that allows you to unwind and relax.

At Terra Alta Cottages, life is simple.

You can spend your days exploring the nearby hiking trails, grabbing a coffee in town, kayaking down the Schroon River, or simply sitting on your porch with a good book and the fresh air. There's no need to rush or worry about anything, as time seems to slow down here. It's the perfect place to unplug and recharge.

Terra Alta has 400 feet of lakeshore at the north end of magnificent Schroon Lake. You’ll love the roped off swim area and beach full of Adirondack chairs where you can sit in the sun or shade. Certified lifeguards are on duty throughout the summer.

While on the grounds of Terra Alta you can play tennis or pickle ball on our courts. There is a basketball court too.

There are several play areas on the property for the kids to enjoy.

Boaters are welcome to rent dock space during their stay.

During your stay with us you can use our  kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards.

At Terra Alta we think dogs are family.  So, for a fee, we welcome them to stay.

Dogs must be leashed at all times on the property except for scheduled morning and evening playdates for well-behaved dogs down near the dock area.  We know lots of dogs love to jump in the lake just like you do.
